DARREN RICE
LITHOGRAPH AND GICLÉE DETAIL
All lithographs and giclees of Darren Rice's art are published by Pilothouse Publishing. Each print is the product of careful collaboration between Pilothouse Publishing, Darren Rice and a select team of master craftsmen. This collaborative process ensures that each Darren Rice print that is created breathes with the same life as the original art.
In addition, only the highest quality inks and paper are used for Pilothouse Publishing limited editions. Special inks, formulated to be light resistant and museum quality art paper or canvas are used to give Darren Rice prints a beauty that will endure for generations.
The following are definitions of terms associated with limited edition prints:
Limited Edition Prints: A reproduction of an original work that is signed and numbered by the artist. The total number of prints is fixed or limited by the artist or the publisher.
Offset Lithograph: A photomechanical reproduction created by the separation of colors in the original, and then recombining those colors on a printing press. Darren Rice lithographs are offset lithographs that were created using only archival paper and light resistant inks.
Giclée: (gee-clay) A French term meaning, "spraying of ink." Iris Printers spray microscopic drops of color onto a canvas or paper. With the capacity to display the full color spectrum, these artworks have vibrant, brilliant colors that give the finished giclée the look of an original painting.
Signed and Numbered: This term refers to the process of signing and numbering limited edition prints by the artist. The artist's signature is usually found in one of the lower corners of the print and is accompanied by a number that looks like a fraction. The top number indicates the number of the print and the bottom number indicates the total number of prints in the edition.
Artist's Proofs: Artist's Proofs are additional prints not included in, but the same quality as, the regular edition. Artist's proofs are distinguished by the abbreviation AP and are numbered separately. They often represent 5 to 10 percent of an edition and are slightly more expensive than prints in the regular edition.
Certificate of Authenticity: A statement of authenticity of a limited-edition print that records the title of the work, the artist print's number within the edition, the number of artist's proofs and the release date. It is guaranteed that the edition is limited and that the image will not be published again in the same form.
Hand Embellishment: A term used to describe brush strokes of color added after the piece has been printed. Darren Rice, unlike many artists producing limited edition prints today, does all of the hand embellishment himself, thereby making his canvas prints almost indistinguishable from his original art.
Sold Out: When all prints in a limited edition have been sold, the edition is sold-out and prints must be bought and sold on the secondary market.
Secondary Market: The dealers and individuals who buy and sell prints above the issue price after an image is sold-out at the publisher.
