BIOGRAPHY

Darren Rice is quickly establishing himself as one of the premier realist painters in America today.  Receiving his art training at Yale University, Mr. Rice has since earned a reputation for both his bold, confident brushwork and his keen ability to capture the nuances of light on canvas.  Rice's masterful treatment of light is due in large part to the countless hours he has spent painting from life outdoors.  Mr. Rice currently divides his time between landscape, still life and marine-oriented subject matter.  Rice's recent appointment as Official Artist To The United States One World Challenge for The America's Cup is a compliment to his talents that opens up great prospects for his continuing successful future.  Additionally, Rice was recently selected as one of the "Top 100" in the prestigious Arts For the Parks contest, an international competition.  Notably, at 30 years old, Rice was the youngest artist in the "Top 100".  A list of juried exhibits Mr. Rice is currently participating in may be viewed through the Rice Exhibits link.

While currently making his home in the Pacific Northwest, Darren Rice draws artistic inspiration from his many years living in various parts of the United States, including both the Northeast and California.  Mr. Rice's work can currently be found in galleries and private collections throughout the country and abroad, including the collections of Seattle billionaires Craig McCaw and Paul Allen.  His work has appeared in a number of magazines including Art Business News, Decor and U.S. Art.  Rice is a member of Oil Painters of America, The American Society of Marine Artists, The West Coast Pastel Society, Northwest Pastel Society and the Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters.
